Irene Giveaway

We've all been watching the news about Hurricane Irene, and unfortunately, some of you are dealing with the aftermath of Irene's wrath.  One of the hardest hit places is our family's beloved vacation spot...the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Hatteras Island is now totally isolated and only accessible by ferry.

Our family vacationed on that very island this summer. I have driven on that very stretch of Route 12 that no longer exists now. And our family had considered renting the blue house that sits on the right side of this photo...the Blue Canoe.  These hurricane aftermath pictures all seem very surreal.

When I was on vacation at Hatteras Island this summer, I found this great little bead shop in Avon, NC.  While The Glass Bead doesn't have a website, I did find a photo of their store front all boarded up and ready for Irene to visit.

There is a very cool clay gallery right next door to the bead shop.  Antoinette Gaskins Mattingly creates beautiful pieces like this sweet little drawer pull...

So, in honor of that sweet little bead store in Avon, I am giving away this bracelet!  The red and yellow swirled focal bead, plus the little yellow glass beads, were purchased there.

"Eye of the Storm"
Do those little swirls remind you of a hurricane?  Here's another look at it.

Oh Canada...Just For You!

I'm still coveting these mittens from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. Aren't they cute?

Speaking of Canada...I have a special announcement for all you Canadians out there who might browse my Etsy shop and wonder why I don't include Canada in my shipping information.

ARTFUL ACCENTS IS NOW SHIPPING TO CANADA!  It's official.  What took me so long, right?

To kick off this fun piece of news, I'm doing a giveaway...but only for those of you from Canada!  If you live in Canada currently, then you are eligible to have a chance at winning one of the necklaces pictured below.  Sorry to everyone else not from Canada!  You'll have your chance again. :-)

Please leave a comment (and be sure to include your name if you don't have a blog or website), and tell me which necklace is your favorite.  I would also like to know what you like most about living in Canada, convince me!  I will refer you to my earlier posts here and here, reminding you how much I love warm weather.

Both necklaces are red, in honor of the Canada flag!

Summertime Giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed for entries....congratulations to RosyRose for winning the Atlantic Aqua earrings!

Currently I'm trying to decide what kind of washer to purchase to replace my old Whirlpool that requires a 20 pound weight on top to keep it going through the whole wash cycle.  I can't even lift 20 pounds, so you see at least part of the problem here!

Umm, what does that have to do with my jewelry blog?  Well, it's all about choices!  We tell our children to make "good choices", as we try to make good choices while we parent our children.  When choosing a new washer, there are lots of choices, which is mainly why I have not yet chosen one.  I'm overwhelmed by all the choices.  But I like having choices.

My husband thinks I entertain too many choices when making decisions.  He commented the other day that he's surprised I was able to settle on my ultimate choice of a husband when it came to him!  This is a picture of us in one of those silly photo booths at Kings Dominion when we first stated dating....no choices necessary, I already had made my decision about him!

This was taken 16 years ago.  Could we look any younger?
Back to choices...today I'd like to give YOU some choices!  Take a look at the pictures below.  There are 2 different sets of earrings.
Atlantic Aqua

Sterling silver earwires and findings
Aqua faceted round glass beads
Aqua/green pressed glass rondelles

Everything's Just Peachy

Vintaj Natural Brass earwires and etched chain
Peachy-pink faceted glass beads
Today you get to choose which pair of earrings you would like to have a chance at winning!  Simple leave me a comment indicating which pair of earrings you like best.  And I'll randomly choose the winner.  All entries must be in by Thursday at noon.  Thanks for entering, and good luck!
